I think the development plan is a good roadmap for self-improvement.  Based on the feedback I received from the Leadership Assessment report I am pretty balanced in my leadership style and truthfully I am aware of my weaknesses. This exercise is helpful because it confirmed my weaknesses and provides specific tasks and reminders to focus on improving those areas.

What is your time-line for developing each competency in your plan?

The time line is to begin immediately however, I think I will be more successful focusing on one or two of the competencies to improve rather than trying to change all five. In my experience, behaviors change over a period of time and if I/someone tries to change to much to soon they set them self up for failure and eventually revert back to the familiar behaviors. With that said, I would like to focus on communicating more effectively and providing constructive and positive feedback in a timely manner.

My plan is to meet with my mentors and discuss the competency I would like to improve. I would silicate their feedback and opinion on what they see me doing well and what I need improvement on. I would ask them to provide honest feedback and assure them it would not hurt my feelings. Once I document the feedback I would ask them to monitor my and provide weekly feedback on how I have been communicating and positive feedback I am providing my team.  Additionally, I will use exercises learned in the class and solicit feedback from other peers such as my Pastor,  boss and other leaders on ways to be more effective in providing feedback. I would also focus on sending emails, calls and hand written notes to provide positive feedback.
