In her article “Our Cultural Obsession With ‘Pretty Dead Girls’ Began Long Before ‘Twin Peaks’,” Priscilla Frank suggests that our culture is fascinated by unconscious or dead women both because it prefers women with no agency and because these images threaten independent women with misogynist violence.
